Beskrivelse

This beautiful, indigo-dyed carpet is woven from organic cotton and is 100% handmade. Craftsmen from Rajasthan, India, use a traditional dyeing technique called Bagru. The colors / clay paste are applied by means of symmetrical wooden blocks or wood pistons (Wood Block Printing). The colors are made from a mixture of fully vegetable indigo color and Dabu, which is a clay mixture. A pattern of Dabu – clay paste is applied to the carpet. Then they sprinkle sawdust over the pattern and let it dry in the sun. The next step is to sink the carpet into a vegetable blue colored blend so that it is completely and thoroughly dyed before drying the carpet again in the sun. Finally, the Dabu – clay is washed away and a white or lighter blue pattern emerges where the clay was. This process can be repeated several times to get different shades of blue. Smaller unevennesses in the pattern have their own charm and testify that the product is handmade.
