Cushion Kantha-embroidered with tropical flora pink

A cushion that is fascinating in the pattern and sparkling in the colors. This interior detail will create a warm and lively atmosphere in any home. The front is handmade of two layers of cotton fabric, the top and visible layer with a floral pattern in deep pink, wine red, purple, rust colour, yellow, green and indigo on a pink background. The back is solid colored pink in slightly lighter shade than the background on the front. The cushion is also decorated with an ancient Kantha technique where dotted lines of stitches extend across the front.

Kantha work is a traditional family tradition of embroidery art, which is continued from mother to daughter and originates from north-eastern regions of India. Old saris, dhotis and similar garments are sewn together and embroidered with running stitches to make lightweight bedspreads, blankets and cushions. Some minor irregularities in embroidery patterns are characteristic of such handmade fabrics. Every article is unique and there is no other completely alike.
